Welcome to Mother Mail!

2020. This year has been a one of the most challenging and illuminating years for most of us.  As we head into the holiday season, many of us are finding real connection is more important than ever.

About

Mother Mail is both a virtual gathering to encourage letter writing and a pen pal swap to connect with mothers new and seasoned all over the world. It was founded in 2016 and is hosted by Sherisa de Groot.

Many of us have turned to the internet to connect with new communities that become family. Sometimes, it’s nice to take that community offline and have mementos that you can keep. Back in 2016, Raising Mothers ran a one-off postcard swap called RMWOES (Raising Mothers Words Of Encouragement Swap). It was wildly successful. Some mamas still send each other letters all these years later.

It is now a real club with annual membership of $20.

You don’t have to be a new mom to participate. Everyone can use a kind note in the mail.

Sign up one year of Mother Mail for $20!

How does it work?

  1. Join the swap by paying the fee
To be able to take the time to arrange the swap, I need to charge a fee. Your payment goes through PayPal. If you are outside of the US, use this link instead.
  2. Fill in the registration form
This step is super important. After paying via PayPal you must also fill out the sign-up form at the bottom of this page.
  3. Buy stationary or make postcards
If you’d like to buy special stationary, that’s up to you. If you’d prefer to just send a card or postcard, that’s also fine. Have your stamps ready!
  4. Send your letters or cards out on time!
We’re aiming for the first set to be sent out in December. You will receive your email with your first set of addresses during the last week of November. From there, aim to send out a new letter or postcard before the 15th of each month. To keep the essence of RMWOES, send a stranger some comforting or encouraging words and let them know how you’re doing.
  5. If you feel like sharing, use the hashtags: #raisingmothers #mothermail

Mother Mail helps keep Raising Mothers running—so, make a friend through the mail AND support the website all at once.
